Canon has released firmware 1.3.3 for the EOS 5D Mark IV to fix what they screwed up in 1.3.2

[ad_1]

After pulling their v1.3.2 firmware for the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV a couple of weeks ago over unspecified “issues”, Canon has today released a new v1.3.3 firmware to address them. Looking at the list of changes, however, it appears that several bugs have been addressed. Only one is specific to problems introduced by v1.3.2 and a couple existed in v1.3.1.

According to the patch notes, four things were fixed, the first of which was fixed in v1.3.2. In fact, it was the only change made in v 1.3.2, other than apparently introducing a bug that caused the speaker to generate a sound when the power was turned on.

Firmware Version 1.3.3 incorporates the following fixes:

  1. Improves the camera’s connection compatibility to a PC while using a USB 3.0 or higher compatible cable.
  2. Fixes an issue, in which self-timer shooting cannot be performed in Firmware Version 1.3.1 and 1.3.2.
  3. Fixes an issue, in which an electronic beep does not sound when registering an AF frame as the AF start position in Firmware Version 1.3.1 and 1.3.2.
  4. Fixes an issue, in which a small sound is generated from the speaker when the power is turned on in Firmware Version 1.3.2.

*Item 1 applies to Version 1.3.2, whereas Items 2 through 4 apply to Version 1.3.3.

Firmware Version 1.3.3 is for cameras with firmware up to Version 1.3.2. If the camera’s firmware is already Version 1.3.3, it is not necessary to update the firmware.

So, if you did upgrade to v1.3.2 before Canon pulled it, or if you’re running an older firmware, you’ll probably want to update. Number 2 in particular sounds like an important one to have fixed. Even if you don’t use the self-timer regularly, you don’t want it screwing up on you when you need it.

You can download the new v1.3.3 firmware for the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV from Canon website.
