Venus Optics Announces Laowa 14mm f/4 Zero-D Lens for Full Frame Cameras |

[ad_1]

Chinese budget lens maker Venus Optics has just announced the Laowa 14mm f/4 Zero-D – a well-rounded every-purpose lens for full-frame cameras. The lens is the first in the Zero-D range getting the focusing scale adjustment system. This new feature allows easy focus calibration against users’ own cameras. The actual infinity point would be right on the infinity mark, making it helpful in shooting in the field.

It’s also worth mentioning that the Laowa 14mm f/4 Zero-D comes in Canon EF and Nikon F mounts while being relatively compact and lightweight when compared to rivals with similar focal lengths. It’s 2.95” (75mm) long and weighs in at 360g. There’s a 67mm filter thread on the front as well.

The optical design of the Laowa 14mm f/4 Zero-D consists of newly developed 13 elements in 10 groups. There are also 2 extra-low dispersion elements and 2 pieces of aspherical glasses to eliminate the color fringing and distortion.

The shortest minimum focusing distance of the newcomer is 14.5cm (5.71in) from the sensor. It also has 114° super-wide angle of view allowing it to be used as a “mini macro” lens capable of creating exaggerated close-up images.
